Google Pixel XL vs Nexus 6P: Should you Upgrade?

Google has ditched the NEXUS series, new generation PIXEL is launched and tagged as “Made by Google”.The new PIXELS phones are premium addition to world of smartphones. Two handsets named “PIXEL” & “PIXEL XL” officially released by Google on 20 October 2016. The experience of PIXELS phones is batter than the predecessor NEXUS 6P and PIXEL are first phones with The Google Assistant built in. Should you upgrade to Pixel if you own a Nexus 6P handset? this article will help you find the answer.

COMPARISON OF NEXUS 6P AND PIXEL XL

Design

Pixel XL is slightly smaller and lighter in weight but 6P is slimmer, Nexus 6P is 178G while Pixel XL weighs only 168G. Both phones are built with metal and have comes with a fingerprint sensor. There is also USB Type-C on both of the devices. Nexus 6P has dual front-facing speakers and a camera bump on the back. There is ‘G’ branding at the bottom of the rear side of the Pixel XL.

Display

Pixel XL has a slightly smaller 5.5″ screen than 5.7″ on Nexus 6P. Both comes with  AMOLED display with QHD resolution good for a pixel density of 534ppi on Pixel XL and 518ppi on Nexus 6P. There is a slight difference in the pixel density but it isn’t noticeable. The display on both of the devices is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Camera

Pixel XL and Nexus 6P both comes with 12.3-megapixel rear cameras with 1.55µm pixels. And the front facing cameras are also the same on both devices that is 8-megapixel. When Pixel was launched Google claimed and said it as best smartphone camera and it outperformed all devices in its class. There is a new feature on Pixel XL called video stabilization and Starburst for capturing action shots and HDR+. Nexus 6P has dual-flash and IR laser-assisted autofocus but it lacks image stabilization.

Hardware

Under the hood Pixel, XL comes with latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, 32/128 GB of storage and 4GB RAM. As it is a Google device so there is no microSD card support. Nexus 6P has Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 32/64/128 GB and  3GB RAM. Both phones feature a 3450mAh battery but Pixel XL comes with Quick Charge solution, which can provide 7 hours of battery in just 15 minutes.

Pixel XL is the clear winner here because it has a more powerful processor and has more RAM.

Software

Google Pixel comes pre-installed with Android 7.1 Nougat and has a new launcher and Google Assistant built-in. Nexus 6P is currently at Android 7.0 Nougat and will soon be upgraded to Android 7.1.

The NEXUS 6P is cheaper and its price is around $550 USD than PIXEL XL $769 USD for a 32GB variant. There is a huge price difference between both of these phones.
